Instagram has become the hub for social media marketing these days. Every company, small or big, has an instagram page to post their updates. Indian startups like Filter copy, comedians like Rohan Joshi or even large companies like Marvel have an active Instagram profile.
An Instagram profile stays active with daily photos and videos being posted. It requires 24-hour valid stories and the usual comment interaction on posts.
The question is, why do you think brands have established a separate department for managing its Instagram activities? Because a study says humans under 25 years of age spend as much as 32 minutes on Instagram without interruptions. Yes, Instagram is used for close to half an hour by the young adults of the world which makes it a quick way to grab attention within a short span of time.
However, all of these efforts of posting, editing, and working would go to waste if you make the following Instagram marketing mistakes:
1) Irregular Posting
Instagram account holders are usually active and check their timeline daily. The best advantage of social media is that they keep your audience entertained and interacted with your services. However, consumers who are your followers on Instagram must be engaged with you all time, to be able to appreciate your presence. So, if you miss out on posting at regular intervals or leave long gaps between your stories or posts, you might lose out on followers and consumer interests.
2) Boring Content
You might post regularly, but if your posts aren’t eye-grabbing and attractive, all the efforts are going to waste. We need to add colour, brightness and customize it according to what works for the brand. You can use Canva to create interactive, eye appealing banners or info graphics. The creativity works great with the audience. Take your time to think about what you want to share, strategize and then execute.
3) Not Posting Stories
The stories have been taking the world by a storm. It is one of Instagram’s not so old features which gives the best results. Stories give a random vibe to viewers and makes
more impact and doesn’t clutter your timeline. If there is anything like competition or news that you want to talk about, stories work the best. They don’t leave any residue on your well-thought account and circulate the message before disappearing after 24 hours.
4) Not using hashtags
Instagram allows account holders to search for posts that satisfy their interests. How do they do this? Hashtags. They search for hashtags and find posts that are popular via the same. So, if you are not using these hashtags to garner attention, you are missing out on your prospective followers. For example, you can use hashtags like #weddingphotography, #photography #destinationwedding, if you are an upcoming wedding photographer.
5) Excessive personal data
Your presence on Instagram is no less than your physical presence in the office. It requires effort to be created, to sustain and to function. Additionally, it requires professional behaviour. Your followers won’t be interested in the weather of your city or how amazing a food order is, if you are a wedding photographer. They’ll care about where you shoot and how you do it. If you are a watch company, post about customers wearing your watches in various locations, not about your parties or personal interests.
6) A private Instagram account
The customers are aware and know what they seek. Your job is to give them what they want. If you make your Instagram account private then that’s it. A follower requires approval to follow your account, it acts as a demotivator for customers. It shows a lack of interest and overconfidence on your part. You can always change this in your account settings, make your account public, which in turn also allows viewers (who might not be followers at first) to go through your products using the search option.
